BDCU Turns 60!
With over 11,000 dedicated local members, BDCU has evolved into a cornerstone of the community, providing essential community support programs and sustainable face-to-face banking through the Community Bank BDCU franchise.
BDCU's journey began in a spare room at the Berrima Cement Works, where a visionary group of local workers envisioned easier access to loans and support for their co-workers. Six decades ago, they could never have foreseen the tremendous impact BDCU would have on the community.
From its modest beginnings, BDCU has emerged as a formidable force for positive change. The organisation has helped families find their dream homes, assisted young adults in acquiring their first cars, provided apprentices with essential tools of their trade, and supported established businesses – all with a steadfast commitment to fostering job creation, innovation, inclusion and sustainable growth.
BDCU's commitment to the community extends far beyond banking services. Through its extensive community support programs, the 100% member-owned mutual has empowered community organisations to achieve lasting social impact in vital areas such as employment, education, health and well-being.
Tanya Schiller CEO BDCU said “As we celebrate this significant milestone, we reflect on our journey from humble beginnings to becoming an integral part of the community fabric. It is important to acknowledge the countless individuals who have contributed to our success over the years. Our founders, whose vision laid the groundwork for what we have become today. Our board members, whose guidance and expertise have steered us through both calm waters and stormy seas. Our local employees, the backbone of our organisation, who have consistently gone above and beyond to serve our members with unwavering dedication. And of course, our members, whose trust and loyalty have been the fuel that propels us forward. Together, we will continue to build a stronger, more prosperous, and interconnected community.”
Looking ahead, BDCU remains dedicated to its mission of supporting and empowering the communities of the Southern Highlands and Tablelands – committed to continued growth, innovation, and partnership, ensuring that the next 60 years are as transformative as the past.
